I was inspired by my father's interest in photography at an early age and after working in London for the exhibition industry for over 10 years I decided to become a professional photographer in 2003. Since then I have been fortunate to photograph well-known celebrities including Sir Richard Branson, Jodie Kidd, Boris Becker, John Hurt and Jamie Cullum, and even a few well known politicians! My lifestyle and interiors work appears in national newspapers, magazines, educational books and TV programs and I shoot editorials for national homes magazines such as 25 Beautiful Homes, Beautiful Kitchens, Country Homes & Interiors, Kitchen Bedrooms & Bathrooms, Homes & Gardens, Livingetc, The English Home and Homebuilding & Renovating.
Clients include IPC Media, Centaur Special Interest, Hachette Filipacchi, Nelson Thornes, Hotpoint, Moët Hennessy, Martin Moore kitchens, Knight Frank, Lewis & Wood, BIID interior designers, Baufritz eco homes and Holloways kitchens as well as PR and brand marketing agencies and cottage rental companies.
Portrait work
My portrait work is all shot on location for both domestic and commercial clients. My medium format Hasselblad/Phase One P45+ camera system can produce extremely high resolution images (far better than any conventional 35mm digital SLR) that can be reproduced in very large formats on a variety of interesting media (e.g. print, wallpaper, fabric, acrylic, glass, etc).
Personal work
Over the centuries, many artists have taken inspiration from their predecessors in order to create their own masterpieces. In 1510, Giorgione painted the 'Sleeping Venus', which later led to the inspiration behind 'The Venus of Urbino' painted in 1538 by Titian. This was to be followed by de Goya who in 1797 chose to paint his interpretation entitled 'La Maja', in both naked and dressed poses. Almost 100 years later and over 300 years since Giorgione's 'Sleeping Venus', Eduoard Manet created his controversial painting of Olympia in 1863. In 1651, Diego Velasquez painted the 'Toilet of Venus', now more commonly referred to as 'The Rokeby Venus', which clearly inspired Helmut Newton to create his own variation in 1981, entitled 'After Velasquez in my Apartment'.
These artists together with Bonnard, Brandt and Sieff have inspired me to create my own series of extremely large photographs providing a stylised 'lifestyle' insight into the private world of the independent woman.
The shots shown here on my website are just a few from this series. Once the project is complete, I hope to stage an exhibition in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
